After going through the Worship Leader Track at the Texas Normal Singing School in Abilene Texas, I decided to give the song writing classes a try. In trying to write a song, I found a lot of difficulty writing metered poetry that had a good sense of rhyme and rhythm. My youngest son, William, who was also a student that year working on his Worship Leader Certification, saw me struggling with writing lyrics for a song. The lyrics were not very creative or compelling. After talking about it, he offered to write me a metered poem suitable for music. That afternoon, he brought me a handwritten metered prayer poem. I read through it out loud and began to write a melody for it. Because the poem was written so well, it was easy to fit it with music in a very singable way. This was the first collaboration on a song with William and myself.
